FINN'S FIRST HAIRCUT

We went to see Uncle Todd today for Finn's first haircut. Daddy and Conner had their ears lowered, too. Even Pop showed up for the occasion. Finn was great...he sat still and came out looking handsome and so grown up. No more curls : (

Happy Birthday to Conner, and Happy Thanksgiving to Y'all!!

We headed to Tulsa for Thanksgiving this year. It was also Conner's 5th birthday (on Thanksgiving day). It was so pretty up there, with all of the fall foliage. We had such a great time eating and spending time with the family.

Will I Ever Be Caught Up?

I'm beginning to wonder if I'll get to a point in my life when I don't feel like I'm going just a little crazy. So much has been going on since my last post, and while each event does deserve its own post, I just don't have the time. So, to catch every one up with the short version, here we go.

We've had two birthday parties (well, more if you count family parties and friend parties). Finn turned one on Nov. 14th. He had a little get together with his pals. It was a pretty day at the park, but he's been a sick little boy, so he didn't really get to enjoy it. I did manage to get a few good pics of him with a smile on his face, but those have been few and far between. He's been sick with virus after virus for 3 weeks now. We've been at the doctor, lab, radiologist, or orthopedist about every-other-day for about a week, now. So far, on paper, he seems fine. But, while he's had a good day here and there, for the most part, he's feeling pretty crummy. We're headed back to the doctor on Monday to hopefully get more answers.

We also had a birthday party for Conner yesterday, though his birthday isn't until next week, Thanksgiving Day (just like the day he was born). My little turkey is turning 5, and yet, he's still my baby boy. He had a bicycle parade birthday party. All of his friends (minus his best bud, Zeke (we missed you, buddy)) came over and brought their bikes and ride-on toys. They decorated them and rode them up and down the culdesack, staying warm with hot cocoa. A little cake and ice cream later, and you can call it a successful party.

Boys' Room

We've been so busy, so I'm just now getting a chance to post. Here's the pics of the boys' room, which is an early birthday present for Conner and Finn. I still need to add some finishing touches, which I'll do over time. But, both of the boys love it. Conner's bed (the upper bunk) is like a little cocoon when he pulls the curtains closed. Finn is still in his crib on the other side of the room, but he loves to play in the room, especially with his big brother. I think it's a room they can definitely grow into. Brian did a wonderful job building the bed, and I had so much fun doing the decorating.

BOO!!

Happy Halloween! Gilby took Flax the Robot, Tinkerbell, and the spookiest vampire you've ever seen trick-or-treating while I stayed home to pass out candy to the other gobblins. Hope everyone gets good candy!

Pumpkins

We took our trip to the pumpkin patch today. The weather was perfect! We enjoyed cool, fall-like weather when we first arrived, but later on it turned warm so the kids could take off their jackets and play. We went with some other friends and had such a great time. I'm exhausted, so it's off to "quiet time" for me and the kids.

Mommy's Helper

Since Gilby is out of town and Avery wasn't here all day (and Finn was napping for the afternoon), I took it upon myself to get as much done in Avery's room so when she got home from her playdate she could see it all put together. Believe it or not, with my awesome helper (shown here flexing his "guns") I was able to move all of Conner's furniture out of the room, and all of Avery's furniture in. As Conner would no doubt tell you, it was hard work. But, in Conner's words, it's all worth it, because Avery is "gonna go nuts!"

Surprise Avery!!!

I owe so much to a friend of mine today. She offered to take Avery after MDO so she could play with her daughter (also Avery). It was because of her that I was able to accomplish so much. While it's not totally finished, I at least got Ave's room done enough that she will get the "Ta-Da" moment. I still need to do some touch-up painting and add the horizontal pink stripe around the top of the vertical stripes. But, I think it turned out OK. I went a little overboard...I found the pink canopy and the princess castle wall mural while at Lowe's today. To me, the decorator, it's not at all how I would envision decorating my little girl's room--it looks like a princess threw up pink, in my opinion. But, I think Avery will think it's absolutely fabulous, which is the whole point. I'll have to let you know...she's on her way home now.

Seeing Lines

Well, to those of you that don't already know, we have decided that for Conner's birthday we are going to give him the bunkbed he's always wanted, and to let him and Finn start sharing a room. Gilby found some plans online to build the bunk bed (which is actually a loft bed), for which he intends to start building this weekend. But, the caveat: we have to switch Conner and Avery's rooms. Avery's "old" room is much larger, and b/c of the placement of windows and doors, it is the only room that the fullsize loft bed will fit in. So, this means that both rooms have to be repainted. This is work! I love the green stripes that I had in Ave's old room, so I wanted to do them again. Only this time she has asked for "pink and purple" (as she does with everything these days). I explained that purple won't match her bedding, but I'll give her some pink stripes along with the green ones. Well, painting stripes is, exuse my language, a BITCH. The measuring, leveling, and taping takes forever. This is on top of the priming that I did yesterday and the base coat I did today. Anyways, I've just finished drawing the lines on the walls. I plan to tape them and paint them tomorrow. We'll see if that happens. I'm pretty sure that at the very least, we'll have her sleeping in her new room by Friday night. Then it's on to start painting the boys' room.

Gilby is headed to Norman tomorrow to conduct on-campus interviews. I hope tomorrow is a better day than today, because if he hadn't come home tonight, I told him I may have had to donate our kids. It was just one of those days. Avery was throwing up last night at bedtime, so we had to skip out on ballet today, and thus didn't get out of the house. They were so rambunxious (sp?) that I should have started drinking early. But, if I had done that, the lines would probably have been wavy.

New at this

Well, we're new at this blogging thing, but I keep hearing about it. It sounds promising, and at the very least the "fam damily" can keep up with our "goings on".

It's 7:00, so I don't have long to post. We've established a new bedtime around here...7:30. Sounds early? Well, some days it doesn't seem early enough. Now that Conner and Avery are no longer taking naps, they tend to have major breakdowns around 7. So, we started this last week, and it's working like a charm. They are happier during the day, still sleeping till 7:30 (sometimes even later), and Gilby and I get "our time" much earlier. Everyone's happy.

Well, maybe tomorrow will be interesting and I'll have more to post. But, the breakdowns are inevitable, so I'd better go.
